What is Mold?

Mold is a type of fungus that can be found in the air, both indoors and outdoors. In the right environment, such as homes and businesses, it can multiply and potentially cause health concerns and compromise the building materials.

Mold spores are very small, but they can multiply in dark, moist, or humid environments. They can also grow on organic materials such as drywall, wood, carpet, and insulation. Many types of mold can grow in residential or commercial properties, including Cladosporium, Aspergillus, and Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly referred to as black mold.

What is Mold Testing?

Mold tests determine whether you have a mold problem and, if so, the type. Our process is environmentally friendly, and all our instruments are approved for certified mold inspections. After taking the samples, our mold inspector will send them to highly rated-third-party laboratories. After processing the samples, you will receive a comprehensive report that explains your property’s mold issue.

We’ll have the detailed reports within 24 – 72 hours and discuss the lab results with you immediately. We prioritize your understanding of the types of mold in your home or business and their potential effects. If there is mold, we can promptly review your mold remediation options to remove, repair, and, if necessary, rebuild the area.

Types of Mold Testing

At Pinnelli Mold Pros, we use reliable and proven methods to find and identify mold in your home or business. The two most common types of mold testing we offer are:

Air samples: This method captures airborne mold spores to test the air quality inside the property. Air sampling is useful when you suspect mold but cannot see it. This also helps determine if mold spores are present throughout the HVAC system. Air samples compare the indoor environment to the mold levels outside.

Surface sampling: Swab tests involve collecting samples directly from surfaces where visible mold is present. A sterile swab is used to gather mold spores from walls, ceilings, and other materials, which are then sent to a lab to identify the type of mold and its concentration.

    When to Consider Mold Testing

Mold testing can be a helpful step in improving your home or business’s indoor air quality, but it’s not always necessary. For example, if you spot visible mold, hiring a reputable mold removal company to eliminate the mold and prevent future mold growth is essential. However, in some situations, such as the following, professional testing is a smart choice:

    Recent water damage

    Musty smells

    Health symptoms

    Buying or selling a home

Whether you had recent water damage, are having sudden allergic reactions, or you are buying a new home, mold tests can give you peace of mind or help you understand the next steps to improve the property’s air quality.
